The original colonial documents for Pointe Coupée Parish are kept in a variety of places for safekeeping, waiting for professional conservation. In their current condition, further deterioration occurs as we can see the scribed iron gall ink cotton fiber paper crumble before our eyes as we turn each page. Conservation of the records, which includes microfilming and digitizing, allows all of us to see and use the records so they will survive for many years to come. An effort is underway to conserve selected historical civil records. Please contact us for further information how you can participate in this much needed effort.
